The Posterior Composite: Managing the Sensitivity
Abstract
The posterior composite is the most used esthetic material in the posterior sector to
fill the cavities and treat the decayed teeth. Their application is very delicate and
sensitive to many factors. In this course we will drive you through the different
steps in the application of the posterior composite, starting with the cavity
preparation, tooth isolation and its importance, the boxing and matrix application,
the bonding mechanism and its different types, the different materials for the
filling, polishing and finishing.
If the posterior composite filling is not properly executed, the patient will suffer
from functional sensitivity and or food impaction or recurrent caries.
Learning objectives:
- Understand the bonding mechanism and the different types
- Understand the cavity and margin preparation
- Evaluate the boxing techniques and securing the proper contact point
- Evaluate the cavity filling approach
- Discuss the limits of the posterior composite filling and the alternatives
